Obituary of Roma "Romey" Wallace Newsome ROMA ROMEY WALLACE NEWSOME Virginian Pilot  04-09-1998 FRANKLIN  Roma Romey Wallace Newsome, 91, died April 7, 1998, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, Mr. Newsome was a son of the late Julius Baker and Fannie Laura Britton Newsome. He had retired after 33 years service as mill manager of the Theo K. Hann & Sons Basket Factory and was the oldest living member of Black Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Oretha Cobb Newsome; five daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey and Donald Pagett, Irene and Herbert Britt, both of Carrsville, Edna and Marvin Butler, Laura and Jesse Stieh, Glenda and Donald Drewry, all of Franklin; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roland and Ryland Newsome of Zuni, Clayton and Joan Newsome, and Wendell Newsome, all of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, Kenneth Britt, Lauren Stieh, Romey Newsome, Kevin Newsome, Clay Newsome, Brian Drewry, Ronald Butler, David Kent, Darlene Thomas, Lois Gurganus, Stephanie Seale, and Nancy Stieh; nine great-grandchildren, Shawn and Dylan Thomas, Lauren and John Morgan Steih, Amber Gurganus, Brenda Kent, Smantha Eckert, Bonnie Newsome and Ginny Britt; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Elizabeth N. Burgess, Anna N. Wade, Essie N. Williams, Hope N. Butler; three brothers, Sidney C. Newsome, Roland M. Newsome and J.B. Newsome, Jr. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Black Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Wayne Underwood assisted by the Rev. Willis Switzer with burial in the church cemetery.
