A native of Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Ernest L. and Effie Pierce Nelms and was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth N. Bates. He was retired from the Body Shop of BelAir Chevrolet, and he was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Windsor Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his wife, Lois Hedgepeth Nelms; a daughter, Connie Bradshaw of Windsor; two grandchildren, Darnelle N. Brinkley, Gerald Russell Bradshaw, both of Windsor; two brothers, Willie E. Nelms and Robert L. Nelms, both of Suffolk. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Windsor Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Bradshaw and the Rev. James B. Crocker.
