Ricky was born in Danville, Va., and was a 1967 graduate of Forest Glen High School. He was a member of Holland Baptist Church and a former sawyer in the Saw Mill Division of International Paper Co. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Brenda Cherry McMurtrey; a daughter, Tracy Leigh McMurtrey and her husband, Jason Parker, of Portsmouth; his mother, Thelma Oakes McMurtrey of Holland; two sisters, Sandra McMurtrey and her husband, George Goetzke, of Arlington, Va., and Patsy M. DeLucia of Zuni, Va.; and a nephew, Andy DeLucia of Zuni. He was predeceased by his father, Ralph Willis McMurtrey. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Clyde Alderman officiating. Memorials may be made to the Virginia Wildlife Federation, 1001 E.
