A native of Cape Cod, Mass., he was son of the late John G. and Rosella Andrews Martin. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and had retired in 1977 after 25 years service as a supervisor at Camp Perry. He is survived by his wife, Mamie Umphlette Martin; two daughters, Toni Martin Mechling of St. Augustine, Fla., and Betsy Martin Nielsen of Williamsburg; a son, James Lawrence Martin Jr. of Long Beach, N.C.; a half-brother, Joseph Sambade of Massachusetts; two granddaughters, Leah Nielsen Krosch and Diane Nielsen; and seven step-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Zuni, on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen Wiley officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the York County Rescue Squad.
