Born in Newport News, she was a graduate of Southampton High School and Longwood College and was a first grade teacher at Ocean Lakes Elementary School. She attended Courtland Baptist Church and London Bridge Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Lagana; her daughter and best friend, Kacye Barnes of Virginia Beach and a junior at James Madison University in Harrisonburg; her special pet, Bailey; her mother, Jean K. Futrell of Courtland ; father, Gerbert L. Williams of Vero Beach, Fla.; sister, Sandra W. Hightower and husband Mark of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and a special friend, Thomas G. Lis of Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Berder Futrell. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Courtland Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Speight. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery . A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m in Nimmo Methodist Church, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and requests memorials be made to Stray No More Inc., P.O. Box 6106, Lake Worth, FL 33466.
