Obituary of Edith Griffin Kirkland EDITH WILSON GRIFFIN KIRKLAND VIRGINAIN PILOT  05-01-1998 BOYKINS  Mrs. Edith Griffin Kirkland, 69, a resident of East Street, died April 30 at Norfolk Sentara Hospital. A lifelong resident of Southampton County, she was born Nov. 11, 1929, the daughter of the late John Thomas Jack and Homie Smith Griffin. She was a member of Boykins Baptist Church. After graduating from Richmond Professional Institute, Mrs. Kirkland worked as a legal secretary for Britt & Carter Law Office in Boykins before owning and operating Boykins Florist for several years. Afterward, she worked for Joe Pope Insurance Agency in Boykins and its successor, Manry-Rawls Insurance Company, before retiring with more than 20 years of service. Edith enjoyed working outdoors. She loved gardening and growing flowers. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ollie W. Mutt Kirkland; two sons, Ronlad W. Kirkland and wife Allison; David W. Kirkland and wife Lynn; and a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Kirkland, all of Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by a brother, Howard Bit Griffin. Graveside funeral services were held in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, May 3 by the Rev. Benjamin Thomas. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins, handled arrangements.
