Mrs. Kales was the widow of Francis Henry Kales and the daughter of the late John D. and Ann Pretlow Abbitt. She was reared in Norfolk and had resided in York since 1953. She graduated in 1934 from Mary Washington College with a B.S. in education and was an elementary school teacher in the Norfolk Public Schools from 1934 to 1943, and a substitute school teacher in York Suburban School District. She was a volunteer for Planned Parenthood of Central Pennsylvania and was an Episcopalian. She is survived by two daughters, Ann K. Lindblom of Springfield, Va., and Ellen D. Geiger of York; a son, Albert M. Kales of Manassas, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Kristin, Tracy and Kimberly Kales, and Elizabeth, Michael and Daniel Lindblom, and Brian Geiger. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Ed Pickup. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge.
