A native of Isle of Wight County, he was the son of the late Walter Jasper Joyner and Bessie Mae Tomlin Joyner. He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Ann Joyner. He had retired as a farmer and employee of Gwaltney's in Smithfield. He carried newspapers in Zuni for the Virginian-Pilot for 14 years. Mr. Joyner was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, the Zuni Hunt Club and was a charter member of the Zuni Ruritan Club. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Joyner Luter of Windsor; a son, Robert Goode Joyner; a sister, Betty Louise Maynard; two brothers, L. Russell Joyner of Seaford, and Sydney Joyner of Tappahannock; four grandchildren, Steve Joyner, Debbie Joyner, Mike Luter, and Travis Luter; a great-grandson, Zachary Joyner; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. by Rev. John Hartman in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial will be in Antioch Church Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive visitors Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home, and other times at the daughter's residence, 11121 Old Suffolk Rd., Windsor.
