Polly Stephens Jones, 81, widow of William Thomas Jones Sr., died July 5, 1999, at her residence. 

She was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Suffolk, a daughter of the late Craton G. and Beatrice Howell Stephens. A former pre-school teacher, she was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church and a graduate of Elon College. 

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Carolyn Terrell and her husband, Don, of Camden, S.C.; a son, William Thomas Jones Jr., and his wife, Eloise, of Charleston, W.Va.; a sister, Elizabeth ``Sissy'' Britt of Hertford, N.C.; a brother, Craton G. Stephens Jr. of Garner, N.C.; four grandchildren, Rawles Kelly of Bermuda, Karen Rittmeyer of Cincinnati, Ohio, David Terrell of Columbia, S.C., and William T. Jones III of Arlington, Va. 

A graveside funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. Lafayette T. Wilkins. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Village at Woods Edge followed by a visitation. Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 North High St., Franklin VA 23851.
