Obituary of Katherine Doar "Kitty" Jones KATHERINE D. JONES Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 9, 2002 Katherine Doar "Kitty" Jones, 81, died Dec. 8, 2002, at her residence. Born in Georgetown, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Elias Marion Doar Jr. and Ann Chewning Doar, and was the widow of Thomas Gabriel Jones III. Kitty graduated from St. Catherine's School in Richmond and Sweet Briar College in 1943. She taught at Tappahannock High School during World War II. She was a member of the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Jones was a former member of the Franklin Garden Club, Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Women's Golf Association of Cypress Cove Country Club. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, its Adult Sunday School, the mid-week Bible study and formerly served as a member of the Vestry, Altar Guild and president of Episcopal Church Women. Survivors include two daughters, Katherine J. Youell and her husband, John, of Chester, Maria J. Tisdale and her husband, George, of Richmond; a son, Thomas G. Jones IV and his wife, Elizabeth, of Franklin; a sister, Ann D. Jones and her husband, Francis, of Lottsburg; six grandchildren, J. Blanton Youell, Katherine N. Youell, Elizabeth Brownrigg Jones, Thomas C. Jones, Sara D. Tisdale and Anna C. Tisdale; a nephew, Francis P. Jones Jr. of Richmond; and a niece, Beverly J. Upshur of Germantown, Md. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Edmund Pickup Jr. and the Rev. Marjorie H. Holm officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends Tuesday at the home of Elizabeth and Thomas Jones following the service.
