Obituary of John Ellis Johnson Jr JOHN ELLIS JOHNSON JR The Tidewater News - 09-19-2004 BOYKINS - John Ellis Johnson, Jr., 55, a resident of Springfield, died Sept. 9, in Evanston, Ill. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late John and Edith Vinson Johnson. He was a 1967 graduate of Southampton High School and a 1971 graduate of the The College of William and Mary, where he majored in college newspaper, The Flat Hat. He received a master's degree in public administration from George Mason University. He served in the Army from 1971 to 1974 in the Signal Corps. After discharge, he went to work for the Department of Defense as a budget analyst and since 1987, in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (comptroller", managing a number of defense appropriations. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Relyes Johnson; a daughter, Margaret Frances Johnson; a son, James Edward Johnson, all of Springfield; two brothers, Edward Lee Johnson of Newsoms and Glenn Vinson Johnson of Sumter, S.C. A memorial service was to be held at 1:30 p.m., Sept. 18, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 6509 Sydenstricker Road, Burke, VA 22501. Interment will be Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, at a later date. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o June S. Cooley, 112 Sunset Drive, Franklin, Va. 23851, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2101 Executive Drive, Tower Box 21, Hampton, Va. 23666.
