"Junior" Bowden, Jr., 82, a resident of Tucker Swamp Road, died Oct. 22 at his home after a period of declining health. Born Sept. 19, 1918, in SouthamptonCounty, he was the son of the late J.R. Bowden, and Irma Horne Bowden. He was a retired mechanic and antique furniture dealer. He was a deacon and trustee of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, and a former member of Zuni Ruritan Club. He was the husband of the late Hazel B. Bowden, who die Oct. 18, 1987. He is survived by a daughter. Linda Elizabeth Bowden Garriss and husband Stanley of Margaretsville, N.C.; a son, J.Rufus Bowden III and wife Linda Sue of Zuni; a grandson Jonathan M. Bowden and wife Amy of Boykins; several nieces and nephews, including Keith Barrett and wife Jean; his lifelong friend, Frances Gray of Windsor; first cousin, Fenton Worrell of Ivor; and his former caretaker, Carole of Franklin; and caregiver, Elizabeth Parham, her husband Jerry and their family. He was the brother of the late Byron C. Bowden Sr., Herman Wilson Bowden and Mildred B. Barrett. A funeral service was held in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, Oct. 25 by the Revs. Steve Bradshaw and David Foster. Burial was in the church cemetery. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, handled arrangements.
