††Born Aug. 20, 1916, in Suffolk, he was the son of the late John B. and Gertrude Riddick Pruden. He was the owner of Pruden Hardware and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, the McLemore Bible Class and past chairman of the Finance and Staff Parish Committee. During World War II, he was an Army infantry officer. He was a 1938 graduate of Virginia Tech, and an Eagle Scout.
††Mr. Pruden was the loving husband of Margaret W. Pruden for 60 years, and a loving father to his children, Johanna P. Covel and her husband, Dr. Jerome Covel, of Vienna, Va., and to John Brooke Pruden III and his wife, Susan G. Pruden, of Suffolk. Also surviving are the grandchildren, Mary, Michael, Withers, Dana, Beth and Chris.
††A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Main Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Alan Felumlee. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home.
††In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, Organ Fund, 202 N. Main St., Suffolk, Va. 23434.
