Obituary of Mary J. Jernigan MARY J. BRYANT JOHNSON JERNIGAN The Tidewater News  02-20-2003 FRANKLIN  Mary J. Jernigan, 88, widow of Luther Jernigan, died Feb. 17, at East Pavilion. Mrs. Jernigan was a native of Southampton County and a former resident of Suffolk. She was a retired certified nurses aide and a member of the Franklin Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include three stepsons, Carroll and Edwin Jernigan of Petersburg and Elmer Jernigan of Calabash, N.C.; a step-granddaughter, Jackie Van Voorhis of Little Rock, Ark.; a cousin, Jack, Harrup and wife Ruth of Conway, N.C. Mrs. Jernigan was predeceased by her parents, Quincy Thomas and Lila Fuschia Joyner Bryant; her sister, Viola Mae Wiggins; and her first husband Calvin R. Johnson. A funeral was conducted Feb. 19 in the Franklin Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial was in Holly Lawn cemetery, Suffolk. Memorial may be made to the church.
