SUFFOLK  Elbert Ray Howard, 57, died at his home Jan. 13. (2002)

  Born Feb. 20, 1944, in Bertie County, N.C., he was the son of Edna Dunn Howard of Suffolk and the late Ernest W. Howard. Mr. Howard had served in the Air Force Intelligence and was retired from General Foods Corp.  He was a member of Suffolk Presbyterian Church for 33 years and was a former elder of the church.
  Besides his mother, He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Rene Holland and husband Kevin, and Allison Marie Howard, all of Suffolk; sisters Gladys Pearl Rawles of Ahoskie, N.C., Jane Alice Lawrence of Portsmouth, Susan Annette Simpkins of Suffolk, and Victoria Jean Carr of Zuni; brother, Richard Carroll Howard of Smithfield; and grandson, Austin Holland. 
  A memorial service was conducted Jan. 16 at Suffolk Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Allen Johnson. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at 126 Causey Ave.
  Memorial donations may be made to Suffolk Presbyterian Church, 410 N. Broad St., Suffolk, VA 23434. R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
