Obituary of JOSEPH PAUL HORNOK Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, December 22, 1992 Joseph Paul Hornok, 69, of Courtland , died Dec. 21, 1992, in a Norfolk hospital. Mr. Hornok was a retired logger and tree surgeon and owned and operated Hornok Tree Service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a seaman first class aboard the USS St. Louis during the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was born in Premier, W.Va., and was the son of the late Helen Roncsek and Andrew Joseph Hornok. He received seven combat battle stars, one Asiatic and Pacific Theatre Medal, one Philippine and the Solomon Island Liberation Medal, one American Defense Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and was decorated with military honors. Survivors include a daughter, Paula Marie Hornok Jones of Murfreesboro, N.C.; a son, Joseph Gary Hornok of Courtland ; four sisters, Helen Kume of Courtland and Julia Pellittieri of Suncenter City, Fla., Irene Lemlemak of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Ethel Skadzenski of West Point, Va.; three brothers, Andy Hornok of Clifton, N.J., the Rev. John Hornok of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mike Hornok of Courtland ; and a grandson, Jason Scott Howell of Como, N.C. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Gary Powell and the Rev. John Hornok. Burial with full military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery .
