Obituary of Edward Hugh Hollowell Sr. EDWARD HUGH HOLLOWELL Virginian Pilot  08-06-2001 SUFFOLK  Edward Hugh Hollowell Sr., 69, of 200 Art Ray Drive, died Aug. 5, 2001. He was born in Suffolk and retired after 38 years of service from the old Nansemond County fire Department and the Suffolk Fire Department. He served as fire chief of the old Nansemond County Fire Department. After Suffolk annexed Nansemond County, he served as deputy chief of the Suffolk Fire Department. Mr. Hollowell, along with Chief Frank Gayle, organized the Nansemond County Fire Department, which was located on Walnut Street in Suffolk. The two also helped to organize the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad. He was very devoted to his church and church family. He was a lifetime member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church where he was serving on the Board of Deacons and was for many years teacher of the Mens Bible Class. He was also a member of Suffolk Moose Lodge No. 141. He was the son of the late Colin Hugh Hollowell and Una Baines Hollowell. He was predeceased by his first wife, Katie Lee Hollowell, w ho passed away in 1994. He was also predeceased by a sister, Linda Hughes, and two brothers, Bernard Lee Hollowell and Charles N. Hollowell. Survivors include his wife, Helen D. Hollowell of Suffolk; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Richard Lynn of Suffolk, Joanne And Gary Lynn of Suffolk, Denise D. and Andy Thomas of Suffolk; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward H. Hollowell Jr. of Suffolk, Robert A. Bobby and Danna Davis of Suffolk, T. Neal and Tanya Davis of Suffolk; seven grandchildren, Karen Timmins, Jason Lynn, Lisa Bell, Nick Thomas, Owen Richards, Matt Davis, Nicole Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Katie Timmins, Markvein Criver, Andrew Criver and Kerklan Criver; a brother, Raymond E. and Sandy Hollowell of Portsmouth; five sisters, Frances and Kermit Kelley of Suffolk, Lorraine and Thomas Ashley of Virginia Beach, Anna and Bernard Bangley of Lynchburg, Va., Doris and Reuben Bryd of Suffolk, Barbara Jean Hollowell of Norfolk; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cypress Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. John Kimball. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
