Obituary of Alice Olivia Yates Hedgepeth ALICE OLIVIA YATES HEDGEPETH The Tidewater News  08-19-1999 NEWPORT NEWS  Alice Yates Hedgepeth, 85, wife of the late Clifford A Hedgepeth, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999. She was a native of Suffolk and had lived on the Peninsula since 1986. Mrs. Hedgepeth was very active in PTA work at Holland High School in Nansemond County, serving as vice president and president of the Nansemond County Parent Teacher Council and on the Executive Committee of the Virginia State PTA. She was made a life member of the Virginia State PTA in 1962. She formed the volunteer department at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, serving as its first director. She was active for many years at Bethlehem Christian Church and Suffolk Christian Church, serving as director of each churchs junior choir. She had been a member of Huntington Mennonite Church for 12 years. Survivors include her daughter, Alice Olivia Hedgepeth of Newport News; a son, Clifford Hedgepeth, Jr., and his wife Jean, of Franklin; two grandchildren, Clifford A. Hedgepeth, III and Anne H. Christy, both of Newsoms; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Christy and Colin OMelia, both of Newsoms. She is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Y. Seward of Oakland, Ill.; and two brothers, J. Thomas Yates of Cheswich, Pa., and Zack Yates of Newport News. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Huntington Mennonite Church, Newport News, with the Rev. G. Edwin Bontrager and the Rev. Gerald W. Showalter officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O.
