Born June 16, 1912, Mr. Hatfield was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and a son of the late James Edward and Bertha Council Hatfield. An Army veteran of WWII, he retired from Union Camp Corp. and as a farmer. He was a lifetime member of Black Creek Baptist Church and a member of Black Creek Burdette Ruritan Club. He is survived by a sister, Vaughan H. Bradshaw and sister-in-law Eunice F. Hatfield, both of Franklin; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Alta H. Vaughan and brother, James E. Hatfield Jr. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Willis Switzer and the Rev. Wayne Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at 18120 Line Pine Road.
