Obituary of Orville Lee Hasenei ORVILLE LEE HASENEI Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, March 5, 2004 Orville Lee "Smokey" Hasenei, 73, died March 3, 2004, at the East Pavilion. Born in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Edgar Hasenei and Myrtis Schott H. Poffel. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, Smokey was a retired maintenance supervisor with Hercules Inc. with 34 years service. He was a volunteer with the Franklin Fire and Rescue for 27 years, a member of the Franklin Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Smokey taught first aid for many years, coached baseball for the Kiwanis city league and enjoyed upholstery, wood crafts, go-kart racing and figure 8 racing. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bernice Modlin Hasenei; two daughters, Susan H. Vinson and husband Billy and Nancy H. Layman and husband Ritchie, all of Franklin; a son, Wayne M. Hasenei and wife Robin of Palmyra, Va.; four grandchildren, William C. Vinson Jr., Christopher E. Vinson, Heidi L. Vinson and Jacob L. Layman, all of Franklin; and a special caregiver and friend, Linda Person. Mr. Hasenei was preceded in death by a sister, Sondra Eccelston. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ira D. Hudgins and the Rev. Howard Vinson officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Southampton Memorial Park .
