Obituary of J. Marvin Harver J. MARVIN HARVER Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - November 9, 1998 J. Marvin Harver, 66, a resident of Ivor, Va., died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at his home. Born Oct. 27, 1932, in Amelia, he was the son of the late William Frederick and Beatrice Hill Harver. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Phyllis Brown Harver; a daughter, Cynthia Harver Darden and her husband, Ricky, of Franklin; three sons, Keith Russell Harver and his wife, Teresa, of Gloucester, Duane Marvin Harver and his wife, Debbie, of Chesapeake, Eric Scott Harver and his wife, Debbie, of Mission Viego, Calif.; two sisters, Margaret Webb of Jetersville and Laverne King of Richmond; five brothers, Wilber Harver and Curtis Harver, both of Richmond, Norman Harver and Maurice Harver, both of Amelia, and Alvin Harver of Blackstone; 11 grandchildren, Missi and Katie Griffin, and Casey, Matthew, Sara, Jesse, Jamie, Bethany, Jacob, Lucas and Caleb Harver. Marvin was a 1952 graduate of Amelia High School and entered the United States Army in 1953. Following his army duty, he worked as a fireman for the city of Richmond. He entered service as a Virginia State Trooper on Nov. 1, 1959, assigned to the Ivor area. In July 1982, he was assigned to the Safety division. He would continue his service as a trooper in the Ivor area, rising in rank to Master Trooper during a 32 year career. Following his retirement on May 1, 1991, Trooper Harver served as an Applicant Investigator for the State Police for four years. An active, respected and much-loved member of the Ivor community, Marvin was a member and trustee of the Ivor United Methodist Church, a charter member and vice chairman of the board of directors of the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was hunt master and served 22 years as president of Ivor Hunt Club and was an active member of the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years. He was a member of the Virginia State Police Association and the Virginia Deer Hunters Association. Marvin will be remembered by his many friends and colleagues as a good man, an avid outdoorsman, a fun loving and light-hearted individual and as a dedicated husband, father and community member. A funeral service will be held at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Randy Duncan. Burial with State Police Honors will be in Ivor Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 332 N.
