Obituary of Barbara Carter Harrell BARBARA CARTER HARRELL The Tidewater News - 04-21-2005 FRANKLIN - Barbara Carter Harrell, 71, died April 16 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Newsoms, and a daughter of the late Lloyd Joseph and Fannie martin Carter. Barbara was a retired nurse and for 33 of her 40 year career, she worked for the Ob/Gyn physicians in Franklin. She was a graduate of the first full class of the Louise Obici School of Nursing and was a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. Surviving include her husband of 49 years, Freeman Jones Harrell; two daughters, Betsy H. Kennedy and husband Walter and Ann H. Cobb and husband Gardner, all of Richmond; four granddaughters, mason and Sarah Cobb, Meredith and Aidan Kennedy; three sisters, Jean Worrell of Courtland, Juliette Moore and Marjorie Burgess, both of Richmond; a brother, Lawrence O. Carter of Stony Creek; a sister-in-law, Deliah Williams of Blacksburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Harrell was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Modlin and Emily Lundgren; and two brothers, Lloyd J. Carter, Jr. and Homer W. Carter. A funeral was conducted April 18 in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Revs. Dietmar Plajer and Lafayette Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in Southampton Memorial Park.
