A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., he was son of the late Jesse Clinton and Elsie Rose Hamlett, and the widower of Betty Wright Hamlett. He was retired from Birdsong Peanut Co., and was a former member of the Franklin Jaycees. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer H. Jernigan and husband Tommy of Franklin; two sisters, Joanne Whitley of Zuni and Helen Asuelo of Santo Rosa, Calif.; three grandchildren, George Thomas "T.J." Jernigan IV, Jesse Blake Jernigan, William Preston Jernigan; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hamlett was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Phillips and Nellie Carroll and a brother, Lynn Thomas Hamlett. A graveside service was to be conducted Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. in Holland Cemetery with the Rev. Edward Johnson officiating. The family received friends Sept. 30 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorial be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
