Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Thomas Hamilton JOSEPH "JOE" THOMAS HAMILTON Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, September 15, 2001 SUFFOLK - Joe Thomas Hamilton , 75, a former resident of Suffolk, died Sept. 13, 2001, at his home in Elizabeth City. He was a resident of Deep Creek Golf and Resort in Baseball City, Fla., also. A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late J. Wade and Sylvia Smith Hamilton and father of the late Joseph Thomas Hamilton Jr. Mr. Hamilton was a retired maintenance supervisor from Union Camp after 36 years of service. He was a member of Holy Neck United Church of Christ in Suffolk, where he had served as an usher and deacon of the church. He was a member of Pine Lakes Golf and Country Club in Elizabeth City, the Senior Men's Golf Association and the Moose Lodge No. 898 in Portsmouth. He was a former member of the Duck Woods Golf Country Club, Duck, N.C., Suffolk Men's Golf Association, Holland Ruritan Club, Holland Volunteer Fire Dept., Holland Men's and Couples Bridge Club, and a former Holland Little League Baseball Coach. He had served on the Holland Community Committee. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joy Gayle Hamilton ; daughter, Gayle H. and husband H. Lee Duplain Sr.; sisters, Elizabeth H. Spivey and Mary Edith Hamilton ; brother, J.W. Hamilton Jr., all of Suffolk; and grandchildren, Morgan, J.D. and Lee Duplain Jr. A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Holy Neck United Church of Christ by the Rev. Scott Fuller.
