Obituary of William Alphonso Grissom WILLIAM ALPHONSO GRISSOM Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, February 3, 2000 The Rev. William A. Grissom, 87, of Whaleyville Blvd., died Feb. 2, 2000. Born Dec. 7, 1912, in Henderson, N.C., he was a son of the late Martin Luther and Lenora Askew Grissom. Mr. Grissom was pastor emeritus of Liberty Spring Christian Church and Franklin Christian Church. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church and the Liberty Spring Ruritan Club and during World War II, he served as a naval chaplain. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mabel Carroll Grissom; his daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Charles Bland of Windsor, Peggy and the Rev. Eddie Walker of Luray, Judy and Buddy Robinson of Windsor; his sisters, Ava Swain, Mary Frances Hoyle, Emma Lou Hoyle, Madge Benton and Dot Jefferson; his brothers, the Rev. Martin Grissom Jr. and John L. Grissom; his grandchildren, Susan and Kevin Bland, Chris, Brandon and Loren Blythe, Neil and Alex Robinson. A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Liberty Spring Christian Church by the Rev. Basil Ballard and the Rev. Tommy Reynolds with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at his daughter's home, 19 Roberts Ave., Windsor, Va.
