Obituary of Harry Monroe Griffin HARRY MONROE GRIFFIN Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 12, 2002 Harry Monroe Griffin, 89, of 42 North Court St., died April 11, 2002, at Obici Hospital. Born in Windsor, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Hattie P. Griffin and widower of Mildred Clayton Griffin. During World War II, he was a Tech. 5 sergeant serving with the 111th Field Artillery Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. He participated in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central European Campaigns. Mr. Griffin was a member of the Windsor Christian Church. He owned and operated Windsor Texaco for many years and later owned and operated Griffin's Grocery. Survivors include five children, Becky Beale and her husband, Jimmy of Franklin, Harry Griffin Jr. and his wife, Robyn of Richmond, Bonnie Johnson and her husband, Col. Michael K. Johnson of Windsor, Toni Phillips and her husband, Billy of Franklin, Bob Young of Franklin; a brother, J.C. Griffin and his wife, Elaine of Windsor; grandchildren, Jonathan and Matthew Beale, Justin and Sarah Johnson, Jordan, Evan and Taylor Griffin, Joanna Phillips, Mary Anna Koehring, and Stephanie Williams; a great-granddaughter, Grace Williams. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Windsor Christian Church by the Rev. Basil Ballard with burial in Windsor Cemetery . The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co.
