Obituary of COOPER P. GILLETTE Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 19, 1996 Cooper Pope Gillette, 70, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, died July 18, 1996, at his Lake Gaston home. He was the son of the late William Percy Jr. and Myrtie Pierce Gillette and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Gillette was a member of Capron United Methodist Church and retired in 1985 from Hercules Inc. in Franklin after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Capron Ruritan Club and the Indiantown Hunt Club of Capron. He is survived by his wife, Helen Francis Gillette; two daughters, Theresa Gillette Bryant of Sanford, N.C., and Sarah Gillette Gibbs of Courtland; two sons, Cooper Pope Gillette Jr. and William Francis Gillette, both of Capron; a brother, Alfred Percy Gillette of Capron; nine grandchildren, Hollie, Emily, Matthew and Jacob Gillette, all of Capron, Laura, Abigail and Joseph Edwards, all of Sanford, and David and Jessica Gibbs of Courtland; three step-grandchildren, Dana and Kelli Gibbs of Petersburg and Lew Bryant of Richmond. Funeral services will be held at Capron United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday by Rev. Lowell Stovall. Burial will be in Capron Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the residence at 21847 Brandy Pond Road. Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1301 N. Hampton St., Suite 108, Richmond, Va. 23230.
