Louise Ruffin Gatling, 84, of the 33100 block of Hinson Drive, died Aug. 11, 1992. 

Mrs. Gatling was born in Bertie County, N.C., and was the widow of John D. Gatling. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. A pianist, she had attended Greensboro College and was a member of the school's first symphony orchestra. She graduated from Chowan College and taught school for several years in Bertie County. 

Survivors include a daughter, Jean G. Farr of Warminster, Pa.; a son, John Gatling Jr. of Franklin; a brother, Guy Ruffin of Ahoskie; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Wayne D. Underwood. Friends may join the family from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Holland-Rideout Funeral Home.
