He was a native of Nansemond County, Virginia. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 37 years as a welding supervisor. He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church. He was the son of the late James Joshua Gardner and Susie Babb Gardner and was also predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Cralle. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary B. Gardner; daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla G. and Eric L. Bunch of Suffolk; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sonya A. Gardner of Suffolk; grandchildren, Emma R. Gardner, Tyler Bunch and Jennifer Cralle; and brother, Bruce Gardner of Corapeake, N.C. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Spring Christian Church. Friends may join the family Sunday at Parr Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in Liberty Spring Christian Church cemetery. The Rev. Allen Lancaster will officiate.
