Obituary of Berder Townsend Futrell BERDER TOWNSEND FUTRELL Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, January 17, 2003 Berder Townsend Futrell, 75, died Jan. 16, 2003. Born in Littleton, N.C., he was a son of the late Claud Kitchen and Lucy Aycock Futrell. Mr. Futrell served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was the retired service manager for Parker Oil Co. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir member and member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a charter member of the Boykins Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Jean Kisel Futrell; a daughter, Julia Ann Jeffries and husband, Charles, of Franklin; a son, Berder T. Futrell Jr. of Jackson, N.C., and Jan Meredith Futrell and wife, Helen, of Franklin; two stepdaughters, Linda W. Lagana and husband, Joe, of Virginia Beach and Sandra W. Hightower and husband, Mark, of Boynton, Fla.; two sisters, Evangeline Futrell and husband, Milton and Hortense F. Foster, all of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two brothers, Royster S. Futrell and wife, Ann, of Apex, N.C., and Basil L. Futrell and wife, Mary Alice, of Graham, N.C.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Futrell was predeceased by his first wife, Janice Futrell; a son, Steve Futrell; and three brothers, Edward, Harold and Terry Futrell. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Courtland Baptist Church, 22264 Main St., with the Rev. Tommy Speight officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery . The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorials be made to the church or to Courtland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 439, Courtland , VA 23837.
