Obituary of James Monroe Foster Sr. JAMES MONROE FOSTER Birth: Jul. 1, 1922 Death: Jun. 9, 2004 James Monroe Foster Sr., 81, of the 6000 block of Churchland Blvd., died June 9, 2004, in his home. Mr. Foster, a native of Portsmouth, was retired planner and estimator at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Two sisters, Gertrude Anderson and Alma Arritt, predeceased him. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Beale Foster; four children, Carol F. Darden of Portsmouth, Brenda F. Brinkley of Suffolk, James M. Foster Jr. of Portsmouth, Milton B. Foster of Portsmouth; a brother, Charles A. Foster of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Darin, Dana, Scott, Tim and Adam; and two great-grandchildren, Kodi and Cadee. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Gary Manning. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. A celebration of his life will be held at his daughter, Brendas house at 5 p.m. today. Family and friends are invited.
