Shirley Mays Eure, 54, of the 26000 block of Pondview Lane, died Feb. 26, 1997, in Obici Hospital. 

Born in Suffolk, she was a member of Open Door Church and a homemaker. She was predeceased by her father, Willie E. Mays. 

Survivors include her husband, Alton Mills Eure; mother, Ruth Carr Mays of Windsor; stepdaughter, Denise Wheeler of Rocky Mount, N.C.; stepson, Keith Eure of Rocky Mount; granddaughter, Presley Eure of Nashville, N.C.; grandson, Zackery Wheeler of Rocky Mount; sisters, Elizabeth Thomas of Carrsville, Hazel Cornell of Williamston, N.C., Nancy Chaney of Portsmouth, Virginia Peace of Virginia Beach, Edith Mays of Williamston, N.C., Margaret Holt of Waverly, Mary Catherine Yen of Spring, Texas; brothers, Richard Lee Mays of Windsor, Willie Edward Mays Jr. of Chesapeake. 

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Open Door Church by the Revs. Tony Peaks and Kathleen Peaks. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery . Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Harrell Funeral Home and other times in the home of her sister, Elizabeth Thomas, 2351 Burdette Road, Carrsville.
