Roscoe Gillium Edwards Jr., 69, of the 100 block of Captain John Road, died Jan. 19, 1991, in a Franklin hospital. 

Mr. Edwards, a native of Courtland, was former owner and operator of Edwards & Son Grocery and retired from the roll finishing department of Union Camp Corp. after 25 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a deacon at Courtland Baptist Church and a former member of Courtland Volunteer Fire Dept. 

Survivors include his wife, Paxina E. Edwards; two daughters, Elizabeth J. Williams and Peggy E. Layne, both of Richmond; a sister, Katherine R. Drake of Norfolk; a brother, Warren E. Edwards of Virginia Beach; and three grandchildren. 

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Courtland Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary R. Powell. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Friends may join the family at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad or to the church. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is handling arrangements.
