Edwards Jr., 70, died Sept. 12, 2002, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Born in Southampton County, he was one of nine children of the late Bennett Lee and Effer Britt Edwards. He was retired from Franklin Equipment Co. as service and warranty department manager and was a member of the Courtland Ruritan Club and former president of the Courtland Fire Department. He was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Bernice Vick Edwards; three daughters, Vickie Edwards Phipps and husband Dale, Brenda Edwards Flowers and husband Bill, all of Courtland , and Dale Edwards Holt and husband Ricky of Sedley; a son, Kenny Edwards and wife Marsha of Suffolk; a sister, Susie Lee Eason and husband Elmo of Franklin; mother-in-law, Eunice and husband Jim Rice of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Mary Betty Vick White and husband Clarence of Bracey, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Elyse and Zachary Edwards, Kevin Story, Tiny Story, Kelly Anne Spivey, Mitch and Brandon Phipps, Taylor Flowers, Bennett Lee Flowers, Ashley Holt and Carrie Holt; and a great-grandchild, Darren Story. A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Courtland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Gentry officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery .
