Obituary of EDGAR J. BROCK, SR. The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - April 24, 1994 Edgar John Brock, Sr., 97, formerly of Windsor, died April 22, 1994, in Richmond at the Masonic Home of Virginia. A native of Southampton Co., he was the son of the late Lazarus L. Brock and Ella Bradshaw Brock Johnson. Mr. Brock retired from Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. in 1945 after 28 years as a steam engineer. He was a retired farmer and licensed auctioneer. He was an Army veteran of World War I, and a member of World War I Veterans Incorporated. He was a lifetime member and chaplain emeritus with American Legion Post 49. He was a member of both Blackwater Lodge (NU)134 in Zuni, serving as past master twice, and Purdie Lodge (NU)170 in Windsor, A. F. & A. M. He was district deputy in 1954 and selected Mr. Mason for the 31st District in 1978. He was a member of the Zuni Ruritan Club and its president in 1954. Between 1960-1966 he managed a Good Will store in Smithfield. Mr. Brock was a member of Windsor Christian Church, Windsor, for thirty-six years and taught the Baraca Sunday School class for thirty years. Survivors include his wife, Emily Whitley Brock of Richmond; two daughters, Marion B. Beasley of Yorktown and Marie B. Hass of Raleigh, NC; one son, Edgar John Brock, Jr., of Montvale; one sister, Mrs. Herbert Traylor of Richmond; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services wil be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in Windsor Christian Church by the Revs. Richard Park and William A. Grissom with burial in Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Southampton Co.
