Mr. Drake was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and the son of the late James Thomas and Mable Whitley Drake. He had retired from Champion Paper Co. and was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and its Bruner Bible Class and the Suffolk Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Vivian Bishop Drake; three sisters, Emma Leigh Matthews of Como, N.C., Jean Vinson of Franklin and Madge Fowler of Courtland; a brother, Andrew T. Drake of Sedley; nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m Monday in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Dr. Roy DeBrand and the Rev. Dr. Ira Hudgins. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home.
