Douglas Fredrick Payne, 64, of the 100 block of S. Wynn St., a carpenter, died Sept. 16, 1992, in a hospital. 

Mr. Payne was born in Hertford County. He was employed with Chowan College. 

Survivors include three sisters, Marguerite P. Pierce of Pikeville, Eleanor P. Williams of Murfreesboro and Kathryn P. Parrish of Courtland , Va. 

The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. Cedric P. Pierce Jr. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Garrett Funeral Home. 

Memorial donations may be made to Roanoke-Chowan Hospice or Chowan College.
