Mr. Davis was born in Courtland . He had retired from the Navy as a chief warrant officer after 22 years and had served in World War II and the Korean War. He had also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 20 years. He was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, Davis-Ridley Hunt Club and Courtland Ruritan Club. He was the widower of Margaret Marsh Davis. Survivors include a daughter, Marlette D. Morrill of Suffolk; a son, L. Gillette Davis Jr. of Duluth, Minn.; four sisters, Virginia Watkinson, Betty Joyner and Anna Thweatt, all of Courtland , and Jane Colglazier of Franklin; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas G. Lee. Friends may join the family at the residence. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Courtland Rescue Squad.
