William R. Bill Darden, 82, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday September 30, 1997. Mr. Darden was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church and past chairman of Deacons from 1985-1992. Mr. Darden retired as District Manager from Pantry Pride Food Stores in 1980 after serving 31 years with the organization. Survivors include his wife, Jean B. Darden; son Robert (Karen) Darden; daughters Sondra (Edward) Speir, Sue (Nick) Elser; sister Doris Parnaby; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew. Funeral services will be Friday 2:00 p.m. in the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Ave., with Dr. E.C. McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to the American Heart Association in memory of Mr. Darden.
