Obituary of Sara Vaughan Darden SARA VAUGHAN DARDEN Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - November 5, 1998 Sara Vaughan Darden, 93, of 11298 Shiloh Drive, died Nov. 4, 1998. A native of Southampton County, she was the widow of Rufus H. Darden and a daughter of the late Edgar Lafayette and Margaret Lankford Vaughan. Mrs. Darden was a graduate of Chowan College and Longwood College and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Epsilon Chapter. She taught school in Southampton County and retired in 1969 from the Isle of Wight County School System, having taught for 40 years. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and an adjunct member of Windsor Baptist Church and its Missionary Society. Mrs. Darden was a member of Windsor Woman's Club. She is survived by one sister, Maggie L. Vaughan of Franklin; a niece, Annette W. West and her husband, James C., of Sarasota, Fla.; and two great-nephews, Joel C. and Aaron R. West, both of Sarasota. Mrs. Darden was predeceased by a brother, Jesse Frank Vaughan, and three sisters, Irma Vaughan Beale, Temperance Vaughan and Eddie Mae Vaughan Woods. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. Reginald Warren officiating.
