Rufus Darden Jr., 56, died March 27, 1999, at his residence. 

He was the son of the late Rufus and Dorothy Piland Darden. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Farmers Hunt Club. He worked for 14 years for Newport News Shipyard as a pipefitter. 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Huskey Darden; a son, Rufus ``Everett'' Darden III; and four brothers, Marvin, Bernard, Raymond and Luther Darden. 

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Holland-Rideout Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Richard Peerey. Burial will follow in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
