A lifelong resident of Isle of Wight, he was a son of the late Hardy and Mary Theodosia Dosia Carr Darden and the widower of Daisy Carr Darden. Boots was a retired farmer and peanut buyer. He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Norma Darden Padgett of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Anne Darden of Virginia Beach; a son, James Larry Darden of Carrsville; two sisters, Louise Darden Tupack of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Dorothy Darden Hays of Norfolk; five grandchildren, Tracy Padgett, Kelly Padgett, Clay Darden, Andrew Darden and Mary Catherine Darden; a niece, Barbara Tupack of Florida; and a nephew, Edwin Johnson of Norfolk. He was predeceased by two sisters, Cora Norberg and Barbara Johnson, and two brothers, Jack Hardy Darden and Raymond Darden. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Lee Bowers officiating.
