Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - July 30, 2003 Robbie Clarence "Bobbie" Councill Jr., 73, lifelong farmer and businessman, died July 29, 2003 at his home in the 1400 block of Clay St., after a brief fight with cancer. He was born July 12, 1930 in Southampton County, the son of the late Robbie Clarence and Ruby Howell Councill. He attended Franklin public schools and graduated from Hargrave Military Academy after which he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church, served in the Virginia National Guard and as a past member of the Franklin Lions Club. He was an active member of the Delaware Hunt Club and a proud member of the Hokie Club. Survivors include his wife, Jean Gatling Farr Councill; two daughters, Louise Councill Riddick and her husband Robert Nathanial Riddick with their children, Elizabeth and Natalie, of Ahoskie, N.C. and Anne Councill Williams and her husband Herbert Taylor Williams IV and their children, Meta and Bert; two sons, Robbie Clarence Councill III and his wife Deborah Sykes Councill with their children, Courtney and Whitney and William Edwin Councill and his wife Cindy Holland Councill with their children, Travis and Wade; a sister, Dorothy Councill Beale, all of Franklin; a niece, Carolyn Beale Cheshire and her husband Joseph B. Cheshire V of Raleigh, N.C.; a nephew, John Milton Beale Jr. of Carrsville; two great-nephews, Joe and John Cheshire of Wilmington, N.C.; a great-niece, Juliette Beale of Boulder, Colo.; stepchildren, Carolyn Farr Sly and her husband John Jacob Sly III with their children, Jackie and Darden of Charlotte, N.C., Everett Lafayette Farr III and his wife Darlene Firth Farr with their children, Jennifer and Everett of Ivyland, Pa., and Eleanor Farr Jarosz and her husband Jeffery Alan Jarosz and their children, Jessica, Jordan, Samantha and Gus of Charlotte. Mr. Councill was predeceased by his first wife, Meta Pace Matthews Councill and a sister, Shirley Robert Councill. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Lafayette Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, 412 N.
