Obituary of DAVID CAMPBELL COUNCIL JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - June 7, 1996 David Campbell Council Jr., 70, of the 28000 block of Walters Highway, died June 5, 1996. A native of Fayetteville, N.C., he was the son of the late David Campbell Council Sr. and Ethel Leola Moore Council and was predeceased by his first wife, Lois Ivey Council. Mr. Council had retired as a foreman in the Pulp Mill Department of Union Camp Corp. after 47 years of service and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member, former deacon, chairman of the Board of Ushers and vice president of the Men's Bible Class of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. He was a member of Khedive Shrine Temple, past Master of Franklin Masonic Lodge 151, Portsmouth Scottish Rite, past president of the Southampton Scottish Rite Association, past president of Franklin Shrine Club of Khedive Temple, Franklin Chapter 128 Order of the Eastern Star and the Sons of Confederacy. He was a volunteer at East Pavilion and Courtland Health Care Center. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Powers Council; two sons, David Campbell Council III and his wife, Janet Pugh Council, and Mark Edward Council; a daughter, Debra Council Hypes and her husband, Thomas Edward Hypes, all of Franklin; two step-daughters, Carole G. Harrell of Carrsville and Connie Glover of Hillsboro, West Va.; a sister, Betty Council Richardson of Live Oak, Fla.; three grandchildren, David Campbell Council IV, Amy Denise Council and Stephen Council Hypes; two step-grandchildren, Tate Sevais and Jennifer Gay. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Richard Peerey and the Rev. Samuel Askew. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery.
