Obituary of Margaret Johnson Conwell MARGARET J. CONWELL Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - March 5, 2000 Margaret Johnson Conwell, 82, died March 3, 2000, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Franklin, she was a daughter of the late Albert Sidney and Elma Whitfield Johnson, and the widow of George Warren Conwell. Mrs. Conwell was a 1934 graduate of Franklin High School and attended Salem College. She was a member and past president of the Franklin Garden Club, Franklin Woman's Club, and was a very active member of Franklin Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Leigh Conwell Croteau and her husband, Charles, of Columbia, Md., and Frances Conwell Stepp and her husband, Wallace, of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Helen Kathryn Johnson of Franklin; two grandchildren, Elizabeth White Holland and Frances Anne Croteau; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ashley Shelbourne Johnson and Leigh Whitfield Johnson. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Roy E. DeBrand and the Rev. Dr. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N.
