Obituary of Martin Ricks Cobb MARTIN RICKS COBB Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - April 17, 2001 Martin Ricks Cobb, 82, a retired farmer, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cobb was born in Courtland and was the son of the late W.R.L. Cobb Jr. and Lillian Westbrook Cobb. He was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and financial secretary of the church for many years. He graduated from Courtland High School and Virginia Tech where he was very active in the sports of football and baseball. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Cobb was a member of the S&S Hunt Club and a former member of the Newsoms Hunt Club and Newsoms Ruritan Club. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II with the rank of captain. His service duty included being stationed in Virginia, North Carolina, Texas and overseas in Europe. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Boyette Cobb; his daughter, Kay Cobb Grizzard and husband, Bill; granddaughter, Cathy Grizzard; a nephew, Rosser Cobb IV and his wife, Bette Jo, of Tappahannock; and several first cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin Cobb formerly of Courtland and Wick Cobb formerly of Newsoms . A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hollywood Cemetery , Newsoms , with the Rev. Charles Langley officiating. The family will receive friends at Kay and Bill Grizzard's residence, 34640 Statesville Road. Memorial donations may be made to Barnes United Methodist Church, c/o Linda J.
