Obituary of LAWRENCE ALLEN CLEMENTS The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, November 17, 1994 Lawrence Allen "Dick" Clements, 83, of Courtland, died in Southampton Memorial Hospital on Nov. 15, 1994. He was retired as Commissioner of the Revenue of Southampton County and was a past member of the Southampton County Board of Supervisors. He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Mr. Clements was the first fire chief of Courtland and also one of its mayors. He was a member of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and the Davis-Ridley Hunt Club. Mr. Clements is survived by his wife, Katherine Thornton; a sister, Mrs. Polly Jones of Powhatan; three daughters, Nancy Owen of Richmond, Carolyn Purvis of Franklin and Kathy Williams of Capron; and six grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery in Courtland. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Courtland Volunteer Fire Department and the Courtland Baptist Church.
