Obituary of Katherine Thornton Clements MARY KATHERINE THORNTON CLEMENTS Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, May 6, 2003 Katherine Thornton Clements, 88, died May 5, 2003 at the East Pavilion. Born in Courtland , she was a daughter of the late William Norman and Evie Rebecca Williams Thornton and the widow of Lawrence Allen (Dick) Clements. Mrs. Clements was a retired registrar for Southampton County and a lifelong member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and its Altar Guild. Survivors include three daughters, Nancy C. Owen and her husband Edward of Richmond, Carolyn C. Purvis and her husband Robbie of Franklin and Katherine (Kathy) Clements of Courtland ; and six grandchildren, Beth Owen and Allen Owen of Richmond, Chris Purvis of Franklin, Amy Purvis of Houston, Texas, Katie Cobb of Capron and Kelly Iles of Santa Clarita, Calif. She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Thornton and a brother, William Norman Thornton Jr. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery , Courtland , with the Rev. James W. Browder III officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and immediately following the graveside service in the Parish House of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
