He was a native of Bertie County, N.C. In 1990 he retired as a heavy equipment inspector at Southampton Correctional Center, Capron. He was a charter member of the Branchville Volunteer Fire Department and was the pianist for the Homesteader's Band. He was a member of Branchville Baptist Church and the Valley Pine Golf Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the son of the late John and Janie Ward Casper. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Phelps Casper; one daughter, Paula Mae Whitehead of Como, N.C.; one son, Gary Paul Casper of Boykins; two brothers, Elton Casper of South Mills, N.C., and Cedric Casper of Boykins; one grandson and one step-granddaughter. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, by the Rev. Creston Holloman. Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins, is handling arrangements.
