He was born June 1, 1930, in Suffolk, the son of the late William Robert and Mattie Avent Butler. A professional driver, he was a former National Guardsman, a former member of the Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department and the Southampton Grays. He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Betty S. Butler; two sons, Dennis W. Butler of Courtland and Paul L. Butler of Newsoms; and two grandchildren, Amanda Lee Butler and Paul Wayne Butler. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at High Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Edward C. Johnson. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the Fellowship Hall of High Street UMC and other times at the home of Mary Carter, 31065 Cardinal Ave. in Hunterdale.
